Teenagers Cody and John Cottrell are shaken awake by a cataclysmic earthquake in the first minutes of December 21st 2012, the day the Mayan calendar ends. They soon discover that zombies are rising from their graves as they battle their way to their home in Sedona, Arizona, to search for their parents and friends. At the same time the Scouts of Troop 274, camped in the wilderness near Lake Powell in Utah are having their own desperate skirmishes with the zombies. Cody and John do not find their parents and head north to Sandy, Utah, to look for their grandparents. Just north of the Arizona-Utah border they join forces with the boys of Troop 274, which has been decimated and lost half their number. Against overwhelming odds they fight their way to the shores of the Great Salt Lake and the ultimate battle for the life or death of mankind.

I am a great fan of Stephen King and Dean Koontz for fantasy and suspense. I don't ordinarily read YA fiction--I'm 62 years old, after all. But someone recommended this book to me, and I am writing my first Amazon review, ever, to say that it's terrific! I began reading last night, and couldn't stop until early morning to catch some shut-eye. I just read the rest of the story without stopping. It was a great story, filled with action and suspense and characters I could relate to and care about. Last year, I taught Middle School Special Ed. kids, who had difficulty reading but were, after all, teenagers and products of popular culture. Some of them were easily bored. But if I were teaching them this year I would definitely read them this story. I think even the more jaded kids would have been riveted by the fast pace and easy-to-relate-to characters.Product details

122112 eBook Parker Lee Reviews
Quick read, but I wish there would have been a little bit more to it. It's not what you think it is.
not to bad of a book but the story flowed really fast and I did not get to really get time to like the characters.
I found this book quite so-so. I didn't get why characters were taking certain actions at different points and thought that some seemed to have either no knowledge, or very excessive knowledge of 2012 predictions. Wouldn't bother with a sequel.
This is a entertaining read for teens and adults alike. I enjoyed the characters and the story. It would be a perfect book to take to the pool or beach for a lazy day of reading in the sun.
Interesting story premise. The book lacks some of the more adult "graphic" representations of gruesome zombie attacks I've become accustomed to in other books, but it is well written with subplots that will appeal to a younger crowd.
As an adult I enjoyed this book even though it was more pitched toward teen readers. Lots of action, realistic characters and dialog. I was a bit disappointed in the ending which is why I didn't give the book five stars. I felt the ending sort of trailed off but I think that was because there will be a second book in this series? I hope so.
Review of 12-21-12 by Parker Lee
5 stars
I read this book three days before the specified date; and it was SCARY. A month or so ago I read Larry Enright's "12-21-12," which I enjoyed very much and which I found-hopeful. This one SCARED me. Earthquakes at midnight? Rise of the Dead? [shudder]-Zombie'Pocalypse? Oh dear oh dear!
Despite the fear factor, the story is compelling, the characters are well-drawn, and I raced through it. I just wish I'd read it-well, months ago.
